A heat advisory has been issued for inland Cameron and Willacy counties until 7 p.m.
The National Weather Service in Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley reports heat indices of up to 112 degrees are expected.
A heat advisory had been issued earlier today for Starr and Hidalgo counties. This advisory will remain in effect until 7 p.m. also.
Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat related illnesses to occur, the NWS reports.
As of 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Brownsville, Harlingen and McAllen’s heat index was at 109 degrees.
Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles.
