Second free summer film, ‘The Goonies,’ to air Friday

HARLINGEN — The second in the Summer Movies in the Park series, the film “The Goonies,” will be shown Friday evening at Liberty Gardens.

The site is at 576 ‘76 Drive next to the Harlingen Public Library. The free movie will start at 8 p.m.

“The Goonies” is a 1985 adventure comedy about a band of kids in Oregon who live in the “Goon Docks” neighborhood who attempt to save their homes from foreclosure.

In doing so, they discover an old treasure map that takes them on an adventure to unearth the long-lost fortune of One-Eyed Willy, a legendary 17th-century pirate.

During the adventure, they are chased by a family of criminals who naturally enough want the treasure for themselves.

The summer film series is sponsored by the Harlingen Parks and Recreation Department.

Seating areas will be assigned and are limited. The use of face coverings is recommended but is not be mandatory.
