Starr County man hit by stray bullet that possibly came from Mexico gun battle

The Starr County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting of an 80-year-old man who was possibly hit with a stray bullet from a gun battle in Mexico.

“Starr County Sheriff’s office Deputies along with the Texas Rangers are investigating a shooting where an 80 year old male was injured with a stray bullet while he was in bed. The bullet possibly came from a reported gun battle on Mexican side of the border,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.

The post said the man was in stable condition at a McAllen hospital.

This shooting follows fighting in Reynosa, to the southeast of Starr County, that left 19 people dead, including 15 Reynosa residents.

Tamaulipas law enforcement also rescued 18 people on Wednesday who were kidnapped and held at two places in Rio Bravo, which is 15 miles east of Reynosa.
