Cameron County officials closed several beaches Thursday because of high tides and weather conditions.
The following beaches are closed to visitors and vehicles:
- Boca Chica Beach
- County Beach Access 3
- County Beach Access 4
- County Beach Access 5
- County Beach Access 6
Isla Blanca Park and Andy Bowie Park will remain open for now.
“Waves, tides and winds call for undrivable conditions and we ask that all individuals be cautious when visiting our beaches and heed the advice of the lifeguards and the flag advisory system signage at all times,” said Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino Jr. in a news release.
The National Weather Service in Brownsville says the threat of minor coastal flooding extends throughout the day.
Forecasters say there is a high risk of rip currents, rough surf and water running up to most of the dunes. The rip current risk is in place through next Wednesday.
A small craft advisory is in effect until 7 p.m.
