Wildfire threat continues through Thursday

Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Brownsville are warning there is a danger for more wildfires in the Valley on Thursday because of the winds and low humidity.

One of the biggest factors to the fires is the dry vegetation caused by the winter freeze in February.

The NWS says winds on Thursday will be from the north at 8 to 12 mph and the humidity will be about 50%.

All outdoor burning should be banned or postponed altogether. Avoid using any equipment or power tools that could spark and avoid parking or idling vehicles on dry grass.

Alamo fire fighters are battling a blaze this afternoon at a junkyard on Expressway 83. Facebook Live posts show a massive black cloud as piles of junked cars burn. Motorists have commented they can see the smoke from neighboring San Juan, Weslaco and further.
