Recycler receives warships: USS Charles F. Adams was Navy’s first guided missile destroyer

Two decommissioned Navy ships, the USS Charles F. Adams and the USS Ticonderoga arrived at the Port of Brownsville last month for dismantling and recycling by International Shipbreaking LLC.

The Ticonderoga was a guided missile cruiser and the Adams the Navy’s first guided missile destroyer. Dismantling of both vessels should be complete sometime next year, according to the company.

International Shipbreaking Senior Manager Chris Green said the ships would be dismantled in a “safe, respectful and responsible manner.”
