Los Fresnos to hold in-person graduation on May 30

The Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District announced Thursday night that it will move forward with in-person commencement ceremonies.

The district said because the Texas Education Agency released updated guidance for graduation ceremonies earlier this week, it cleared the way for LFCISD to plan commencement exercises for the original date of Saturday, May 30.

In a news release, superintendent Gonzalo Salazar said because of social distancing requirements that are in place for outdoor events, each graduate will only be allowed two tickets to the ceremony at Leo Aguilar Memorial Stadium and everyone will be required to wear a mask.

Each person entering the stadium will questioned about their health and anyone shows signs or symptoms of the virus will not be allowed inside.

The ceremony will be shown on online and social media.

“We will continue planning every aspect of this event and communicate with you in the coming days. We thank you in advance for your patience as we work to honor the Class of 2020. I am convinced that, with everyone’s cooperation, we can have a memorable ceremony and keep our community safe,” said Salazar.

The superintendent said the T.E.A. made clear the in-person ceremony could be canceled based on the state’s monitoring of coronavirus cases in the area, so the district will continue to plan a virtual graduation ceremony just in case.
