HARLINGEN – Want a free meal?
If you served in the nation’s military, local restaurants want to serve you in recognition of Veterans Day.
Chick-fil-A, Golden Corral, Olive Garden and other restaurants are offering free meals this weekend to those who have been in the military, and local veterans appreciate the gesture.
“I think it’s wonderful,” said Capt. Meizie Salinas, retired, who served as a U.S. Army chaplain with Special Forces.
“It’s nice that, particularly after Vietnam, that they are recognizing the veterans,” said Salinas, who served from 1968 – 1988.
She’s currently the chaplain for the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 121.
“It feels good that they are treating us like human beings and that they truly appreciate our service,” said Salinas, 67. “For them to do that, it’s really remarkable and appreciated.”
