The Harlingen school board has just awarded a $2.5 million contract to ROFA Architects to design a new wing at Treasure Hills Elementary.
This will replace the single wing that made up the original school when it was built in 1978.
Age has taken its toll and numerous problems have plagued that section to the point it has to be torn down. The district will go out for bids for a contractor early next year to construct the new wing and then the old one will be demolished.
Treasure Hills Elementary is one of the biggest schools in the district with more than 900 children.
