WESLACO — A 25-year-old woman was sent to the intensive care unit on Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle in what law enforcement authorities believe was an intentional act of violence, according to Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Jena Palacios.
Sheriff’s officials believe the incident occurred at approximately 4:24 a.m. Wednesday, when deputies reportedly responded to a hit and run at Mi Tierra Drive in rural Weslaco.
An unidentified person who reported the incident is said to have witnessed the 25-year-old female being intentionally struck by the driver of a white passenger car.
She was then transported to a local hospital and underwent emergency surgery, according to an HCSO press release.
The case is now being treated as an aggravated assault with a motor vehicle.
Palacios confirmed in the release that the victim is in stable condition and remains in the ICU.
But details on her identity, place of residency and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear as of press time.
