HARLINGEN — Class XXXI of Leadership Harlingen has been busy lately.
Those attending have visited various educational institutions in the Harlingen area as part of their education session day Nov. 10.
Leadership Harlingen’s third session was sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank and consisted of presentations and tours of the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District, Texas State Technical College, Marine Military Academy and the UTRGV Regional Academic Health Center.
Leaders began their session with a trip to Harlingen School of Health Professions where they received a tour and presentation by HCISD Superintendent, Dr. Art Cavazos.
The class also toured the HCISD Aquatic Center and listened to a presentation by Aquatics Coordinator, Sandra Flinn.
“I was really impressed with the school of health professions,” said one Leadership Harlingen class member. “I really enjoyed listening to Dr. Cavazos express his passion for the district.”
The lunch hour consisted of a tour of Texas State Technical College, including the Sen. Eddie Lucio Health Science Technology Building, the Nursing Education Center and the Aviation Technology and Engineering Centers. TSTC Provost, Dr. Stella Garcia, led the tour and presentation.
The class completed the session day with visits to Marine Military Academy and the UTRGV Regional Academic Health Center.
Senior GME Residency Program Coordinator, Amy Knudsen, led the class through the tour and presentation during their visit.
“This session day provided great insight into school and the values they (Marine Military Academy) instill in their students,” said another Leadership Harlingen class member.
The next Leadership Harlingen session will cover the topic of local area industries on Thursday, Dec. 8.
The 2016-2017 Leadership Class consists of 18 professionals from Texas State Technical College, Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District, Harlingen Medical Center, Valley Baptist Health System, Long Chilton, LLP, The Christopher Collection, AEP Texas, Security Service Federal Credit Union, Hydro Systems, Inc., Lone Star National Bank, Hear Now LLC, Farmers Insurance, BBVA Compass Bank, Plains Capital Bank, the City of Harlingen and Texas Southmost College.
