Those shiny floors with the polish and those tables spotless and clean would be a mess without custodians.

So often many people don’t even notice the custodians who sweep and mop the floors and walls and tables of schools. They’re almost invisible as people go about their daily schedules, heading to classes or offices and band halls or the football field.

But not always.

The Raymondville Independent School District noticed its custodians so well on Oct. 2 that a special event was held in their honor.

National Custodian Day is celebrated across the United States every Oct. 2 to recognize the crucial role custodians play each day in schools.

Raymondville ISD held a Custodian Appreciation Breakfast in the school district’s board room, said Benjamin Clinton, deputy superintendent and special programs director. The breakfast included menudo, tacos and a small desert. Each custodian received a special goodie bag.

“The event honored the hardworking custodians who keep the district’s schools clean, safe, and welcoming for students and staff,” Clinton said.

Raymondville School Board President John Solis welcomed the custodians and commended them, and he also shared his own experience doing similar work in his earlier years.

“Your efforts keep our schools running smoothly, and your work is crucial in creating a great learning environment,” Solis said. “I’ve been in your shoes, and I deeply appreciate everything you do, often behind the scenes, to make our schools shine.”

The celebration continued throughout the day with individual campuses recognizing their custodial staff.
