HARLINGEN — Forget about the temperatures this week — the cold is coming.
Popular discount retailer Five Below, which is completing a build-out for a store at Harlingen Corners, will have its grand opening on Sept. 30.
Harlingen Corners is the site of the popular Kohl’s and Bed Bath and Beyond stores. Five Below will be located next to Kirkland’s.
The store will be the fourth in the Rio Grande Valley. Five Below has retail locations in Mission and Brownsville, and the company just opened a store in Pharr.
“Five Below will hold a weekend-long grand opening party starting on Sept. 30 at the brand-new Harlingen location,” company spokesperson Julia Young said yesterday. “The celebration will include incredible giveaways and deals, as well as Five Below’s famous five-cent hot dogs served Friday and Saturday.”
The Harlingen store is just the latest example of Five Below’s continuing strong retail showing.
In its quarterly financial report filed two weeks ago, Five Below’s second-quarter net sales were up 21 percent to $220.1 million, nearly $40 million higher than the second quarter of 2015.
The company also is continuing its rapid expansion of locations.
On Friday, Five Below will open its 500th store near Allentown, Pennsylvania.
“We are so excited to hit this incredible company milestone,” said company CEO Joel Anderson in a statement. “In just three years, we have more than doubled our stores across the country.”
Five Below carries cell phone accessories, remote control cars, yoga pants, trading cards, sports related items, games, fashion accessories, bath and body related items, beverages, room decorations, school supplies and stationery, books, DVDs, computer software and novelty items and gag items.
It prices its products at $5 or less.
