Mission police are warning the public of gas station skimmers after discovering one recently at a local convenience store.

According to a news release, the Mission Police Department has opened an investigation into the matter after a skimmer was found at a Stripes on Business 83 and Bryan Road.

“Card skimming theft can affect anyone who uses their credit or debit cards at ATMs, gas stations, restaurants or retail stores,” the release said.

Police said that thieves can later recover and use this information to make fraudulent purchases.

A photo of a skimmer was shared on the city of Mission’s Facebook page with the post stating that police would begin random spot checks to look for skimmers.

The city also advised people to pay inside when they can to avoid falling victim to these sorts of thefts and schemes.
