A woman was found dead in a sleeping position Tuesday morning outside a bank in Brownsville.
The police department confirmed the woman, 59, was not a customer of the IBC Bank on Central Boulevard in west Brownsville, but appeared to have been someone seeking a place to sleep during the night.
“She was laying down as if she was asleep,” said Investigator Martin Sandoval, public information officer for the Brownsville Police Department.
Police received a call around 9:30 a.m. from a payphone about a person found dead at the bank.
“It was outside the bank,” Sandoval said. “She was close to one of the doors. She had like a little sleeping area there.”
When officers arrived, police noted that her body lacked a pulse and was cold to the touch. EMS confirmed the death.
“Right now, we are pending a notification of next of kin,” Sandoval said. “And an autopsy has been ordered.”
The crime scene was closed shortly before 11:30 a.m., the investigator said.
“At the moment, it does not look like foul play (was involved),” Sandoval added, stressing the department will review the autopsy results.
