ELSA — The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office opened an equivocal death investigation after the body of a 19-year-old man was found here Monday with a gunshot wound.
The man’s body was discovered by family members on the property where he lived on Farm-to-Market Road 88 south of Mile 20 Road North, according to Deputy Jena Palacios Pacheco, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.
“We treat all equivocal deaths as homicide investigations until proven otherwise,” Palacios Pacheco said.
It was unclear Monday exactly where on the body the man was shot. Authorities have also yet to reveal his identity as of press time.
An autopsy has been ordered for the man, and final autopsy lab results could take weeks.
