U.S. Rep. Filemon Vela (D-Brownsville) issued the following statement following yesterday’s law enforcement response to capitol riots:
“Capitol Police have primary responsibility for securing the Capitol. Capitol Police leadership failed to adequately prepare and equip the officers for the riot so I am sure that the people in charge will have to answer for yesterday’s events. The President was directly involved in the law enforcement response to the peaceful Black Lives Matter protests and therefore mobilized the substantial presence that we saw in Washington, D.C. during the summer by using the power of the Presidency. The problem yesterday was that the President was directly involved in mobilizing his treasonous mob to attack the Capitol, so he had no interest in using the power of the Presidency to mobilize federal law enforcement to protect the capitol and its inhabitants.”
