Incumbent Adela Garza will keep her position as Board of Trustees Place 1 after unofficial votes show she received more than 72 percent of the vote.
With 60 of 63 precincts reporting, Garza received 38,567 votes compared to her opponent, political newcomer Jorge Luis Sifuentes, who received 14,408 votes.
Garza could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
Sifuentes said he is thankful for the support and encouragement of his family, friends, organization and community. He said he hopes to continue nurturing the relationship the institutions have with the public and civically engage our constituency to exercise their rights to democracy and representation.
“Every milestone crossed was with the blessing of everyone who believed in our campaign and who was ready to replace ineffective and self-centered leadership with one of our own,” he said.
For Place 2, Alejandra Aldrete appeared to be the apparent winner where she received 32,157 unofficial votes while opponents Ancelmo Naranjo Jr. received 10,020 votes and Antonio Guevara received 10,218 votes as of press time Tuesday. This is also 60 of 63 precincts reporting.
Aldrete said she wants to thank everyone that supported her throughout her campaign in one way or another.
“To all of you that believed and voted for me I truly appreciate all your support,” she said. “I will forever be grateful and stay safe!”
Naranjo Jr. said he also wanted to thank his supporters and that every vote matters.
“To my supporters thank you. Every vote matters and together we continue fighting for honorable representation of our beautiful community,” he said.
Guevara said he wants to thank all the supporters that believed in him, particularly his friends and family from both the TSC and IDEA Public Schools community.
“It is inspiring to witness the tireless work that you do, day in and day out, in service of this community,” he said.
“You will undoubtedly change the trajectories of lives for the thousands of students that go to and through college. Take care, stay safe, and follow the science to combat this virus!”
