A 46-year-old man was shot in the neighborhood behind Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
VRMC wrote in a statement that the hospital limited access to the building between 2:40 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. out of an abundance of caution, in coordination with local law enforcement. The Brownsville Police Department confirmed that the incident is under investigation.
According to a statement provided by Brownsville PD, an unknown subject shot the male victim at around 2:21 p.m. on the 400 block of Avenida Del Sol.
The suspect fled the scene, but the police department confirmed that officers do have a suspect in custody at this time in reference to the shooting.
The victim was transported to the hospital for medical treatment, the department stated.
