HARLINGEN — A 19-year-old has been arrested after calls were received regarding a woman screaming, police said.
On Sunday, around 6:24 p.m., Harlingen police officers were sent to North 25th Street and East Washington Avenue regarding a possible kidnapping, stated a police press release.
The woman was inside a black passenger car screaming for help while being assaulted, according to the press release.
Officers located the vehicle eastbound on Harrison Avenue toward FM 509. The officers activated their emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the car.
The driver proceeded to disregard officers and continued driving toward Rio Hondo, police said.
The driver eventually crashed and fled on foot, police said. Once officers located the woman and two small children, it was reported they were uninjured, said the press release.
Damien Evans Lopez, a San Benito resident, has been charged with unlawful restraint, expose to serious bodily injury, evading arrest with vehicle, two counts of endangering child criminal negligence, and assault bodily injury, police said. Total bond is $39,000.
