An 80-year-old woman from Brownsville died at Valley Regional Medical Center from COVID-19 related causes, Cameron County Public Health reported Wednesday night.
She was a previously reported case.
This raises the number of COVID-19 related deaths in Cameron County to 56.
Also on Wednesday, Cameron County received confirmation on an additional 111 cases of COVID-19 here.
The new cases range from a 10-year-old boy and an 11-year-old boy in San Benito to an 84-year-old woman in Brownsville.
New cases also were reported in Combes, Harlingen, La Feria, Los Fresnos, Olmito, Port Isabel and Santa Rosa.
This raises the total number of COVID-19 cases in Cameron County to 2,510, the county health department said in a statement released Wednesday night.
Cameron County Public Health continues to work with five nursing home facilities and one detention center in addressing the COVID-19 outbreaks. To date, the Cameron County cases arising from the Veranda Nursing Home have included 35 employees and 63 residents who have tested positive, including 11 who have passed away.
Spanish Meadows in Brownsville also has six employees and 11 residents who have tested positive, including two who have passed away. The Rio at Fox Hollow in Brownsville has 34 employees and 31 residents who have tested positive, including two who passed away. Alta Vista in Brownsville has one employee and four residents who have tested positive.
Harlingen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center currently has four employees and one resident who have tested positive. In addition, Port Isabel Service Processing Center has 10 employees and 61 detainees who have tested positive.
