The Brownsville and Rio Grande Valley area will now have an additional way of expressing themselves and learning to appreciate art as the downtown area welcomes the Brownsville Repertory Theater.
This professional theater is based on the founding principles of love, artistry, and respect which is committed to the cultural richness of the region of the Valley through the shared experience of live theatre and its educational programs.
Carolyn Wood, president of the Brownsville Repertory Theater, said the program contributes by producing creative, thoughtful, and high quality year-round programming, as well as collaborating with like-minded arts and cultural organizations. The theater has a partnership with the Revival of Cultural Arts and will base its program at the George Ramirez Performing Arts Academy.
“It’s a platform for people to be able to express themselves, whether that be what they are feeling and what they are experiencing, or what it is trending at that time, it allows people to grow as artists and that’s a beautiful platform for that to take place especially here in Brownsville and the Rio Grande Valley,” she said.
The theater will host auditions by appointment for “WAIT FOR IT – Broadway Boot Camp 2020” on Saturday. Ages for this program are from 7th to 12th graders and scholarships are available for those who qualify. Those interested in auditioning, have to email the theater at [email protected].
“Theatre is about telling stories. Specifically, making theatre, for us, is about taking the raw text that might contain a story and turning it into a living, breathing thing with a beating heart with as much love, care, and talent that you can pour into it,” the official website for the theater reads.
“When this is done right, everyone who takes part in it is transformed for the better. We call it a ‘shared experience.’ This is what our mission calls for.”
