RAYMONDVILLE — The state health department has found four more Willacy County residents have tested positive for the coronavirus, driving the county’s total case count to 75.
On Thursday night, county officials confirmed their latest cases include two men in their 20s, a woman in her 30s and another woman in her 40s.
Now, health officials are investigating to determine whether the patients infected others.
“The patients are currently isolated,” Dr. Emilie Prot, Region 11’s medical director, stated in a press release.
The health department “is supporting Willacy County in identifying any close contacts of the patient so they can be isolated and monitored for symptoms,” she stated.
Late last month, officials believed cases in this rural county of 22,000 residents had flattered out at 14.
But this month, amid an outbreak at the Willacy County Jail, new cases have been steadily climbing.
On Thursday, County Judge Aurelio Guerra issued an order mandating businesses to require customers and employees wear facial coverings.
Meanwhile, Frank Torres, the county’s emergency management coordinator, is urging residents to take precautions including practicing social distancing.
