Flood advisory issued for parts of Cameron County

The National Weather Service in Brownsville has issued a flood advisory for Central Cameron County until 5:45 p.m. today.

At 234 p.m., Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Los Fresnos, Laureles, Olmito, Port Of Brownsville, Cameron Park, Brownsville, Los Fresnos High School.

At 3:15 p.m., Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Lyford High School to Itec Campus. Movement was southwest at 10 mph.

Winds in excess of 30 mph will be possible with these storms.

The storms should impact Harlingen, San Benito, Mercedes, Raymondville, La Feria, Elsa, Edcouch, Santa Rosa, Lyford and Rancho Viejo.
