Thunderstorms, hail expected overnight

Forecasters say get ready for another night of thunderstorms, damaging winds and possible hail in many parts of the Rio Grande Valley.

The National Weather Service in Brownsville says severe thunderstorms are expected tonight into the early morning hours of Friday.

An upper level low and trough across Arkansas, East Texas and Louisiana will bring an upper level disturbance across northeast Mexico and deep South Texas tonight. The storms will move into the region before midnight tonight and possibly move farther east across the Rio Grande Valley into early Friday morning.

NWS meteorologists say the threat exists of damaging wind gusts of more than 60 mph and large hail. In addition, flash flooding may occur in Starr and Zapata counties where it rained several inches earlier this week.

Rain totals could range from half an inch up to four inches in isolated areas. Like the storms that hit Monday night, we can expect frequent cloud to ground lightning.
