Hidalgo County announced Thursday that a 77-year-old Mission man died after testing positive for COVID-19, the third death here and second in two days.
The unidentified man had underlying medical conditions.
“This disease is particularly tough on our most vulnerable populations,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said in a news release. “I extend my deepest sympathies to the family of this man.”
All three people here who have died have been older men with underlying health issues, according to the county.
Authorities also announced 10 new positive tests, bringing the total confirmed cases in Hidalgo County to 235.
Three more people were released from isolation, meaning they have shown no symptoms for 10 days including the last three days without fever. The total number of released patients is 42.
There are 29 people in area hospitals; six of them are in intensive care units. The mayors of the affected communities have been alerted as have the Hidalgo County Commissioners, Judge Cortez said.
All of those testing positive and those living in the same household have been ordered to isolate. There will be no further details about the latest group to test positive.
Of the 10 new cases, the ages range from the 20s to the 80s.
