LETTERS: Wake up People! Socialism for the rich

I never said that Trump was a communist and if it seemed implied then that was sarcasm. You know, like Republicans have said in this forum that Trump was using sarcasm when he asked Russia to find those emails and like N. Rodriguez calls Democrats rats. I didn’t mean for the one percenters at the country club to get all atwitter. For your information, the editor wrote the title, I did not.

Impeached Trump (he was impeached by the House) acts more like a wannabe Fascist dictator. He is an oligarch, an authoritarian. All he cares about is money and power. He doesn’t care about this country. He doesn’t seem to care about his family either because he changes wives as often as some of us trade-in cars.

He is too busy destroying our country by allowing his oil and gas donors to rape and pillage the land. (He knows about rape having been accused of the same by a woman.) He puts oil, gas and coal executives in charge of the EPA and Energy agencies so they can do away with protective regulations that will help their industries make more millions and to hell with clean air, water and land.

He is a con artist, cheating and frauding people by making a fake university. He had to pay $25 million in settlements. He cannot have a foundation in New York anymore because he stole money from a children’s cancer charity. CANCER! CHILDREN! American banks will not lend him money anymore because he would not pay them back. Then he went to the Deutsche bank (a bank mired in scandal involving money laundering, tax fraud, etc). Federal investigators are investigating Trump for payments he made to Russians during the 2016 election. He paid $280,000 to two women to buy their silence about his affairs.

Democratic Socialism is about trying to get the government to work for the working people, it’s for getting living wages for their hard work. Like Wal-Mart employees. They work super hard but they can’t even make it on their full-time salaries. They qualify for food assistance, Medicaid, etc. So the American taxpayers end up subsidizing Wal-Mart! While Wal-Mart owners are billionaires! And they get tax breaks and subsidies when they open a new store, killing mom and pop small businesses!

Impeached Trump is trying to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid so that when folks who have worked hard all their lives are too old to work they will not be able to sustain themselves.

The rich people and corporations are not all rich because they were smarter or worked harder. They, like Trump got tax breaks and subsidies to get richer. Trump got $800 million in tax breaks and subsidies to build luxury condos. But the struggling worker at Wal-Mart has to struggle and can’t get ahead for his family because the billionaire owners won’t pay them a decent wage or provide health insurance.

Yes, we already have socialism. But it’s socialism for the wealthy individuals and corporations. They have a special club and lobbyists. They wine and dine the impeached president, legislators, judges and judge’s wives (Supreme Court justices too). They take them on hunting trips, vacations, and traveling in their private jets. They have exclusive time and personal attention from government officials that are supposed to be serving all the people of America not just their wealthy donors.

Case in point: Downtown Harlingen was dead, then some small businesses were opened. However, their properties received a huge hike in their appraisals. Who knows why? Perhaps because of gentrification (rich people want to get their hands on properties after original owners cannot afford the high taxes.) Some businesses had to close while others will hang on as long as they can. Capitalism in the way that it is being practiced in the U.S. is not benefiting everyone. It mostly benefits the one percenters as seen by the wealth disparity gap. In 2018, the richest 10% held 70% of the total household wealth up from 60% in 1989. The share funneled to the top 1% jumped to 32% last year up from 23% in 1989.

This republic democracy needs to work for everyone that wants an education, a livable compensation for honest employment, healthcare, a healthy, clean, safe environment. All people want is an opportunity to live a good life. This is what the Constitution and the Founding Fathers wanted. “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
