If you’ve got the time, they’ve got the jobs.
The Rio Grande Valley chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists is hosting a Volunteer Fair on Feb. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. to recruit the public service-inclined to help out at area parks and nature centers.
The fair at the Cameron County Annex in San Benito will bring together personnel from around 20 area parks and other organizations to speak with residents and Winter Texans about volunteer work.
“We’re opening the fair to residents and Winter Texans this year because a good number of people have the desire to volunteer and don’t know how to go about becoming a volunteer,” said Heidi Linnemann, a Texas Master Naturalist and RGV chapter outreach chair.
“In the past, the fair has been a popular way to introduce our new master naturalist members to our partners and show them the role volunteers play in the various organizations,” Linnemann said. “We’ve come to realize that members of the community also are interested in volunteering, but not necessarily ready to join a master naturalist program.”
Among the organizations seeking volunteers at the fair will be Sea Turtle, Inc., Hugh Ramsey Nature Park, Estero Llano Grande State Park, Washed Up Texas, Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge and Resaca de la Palma State Park.
Information about classes to become a member of Texas Master Naturalists also will be available, although signing up for the master naturalist training is not required at the fair.
The Cameron County Annex Building is located at Williams Road and U.S. Expressway 83/77 in San Benito, 1390 W. Expressway 83.
Visitors to the fair are asked to park in the parking lot and enter through the building’s main entrance, which faces the parking lot. The parking lot is accessed from the frontage road.
