HARLINGEN — As Texas keeps rambling along with its all-time low jobless rate of 3.4 percent, the Texas Workforce Commission has re-launched a website for job seekers and employers trying to navigate the tight jobs market.
Texas Workforce Commission members, after touring the state and receiving feedback about the current employment market, decided to bring back the www.WorkInTexas.com website.
This week, the site listed more than 800,000 job openings across the state. Job seekers can post resumes, and the site had more than 75,000 active resumes.
Most importantly, employers can post job openings for free, and job seekers can post resumes at no cost, too.
“One of the reasons new businesses move to Texas daily is because of our workforce,” said Bryan Daniel, TWC chairman and commissioner representing the public. “We want to ensure every Texan who wants a job can obtain one, and that every employer has access to a pipeline of skilled workers.”
Daniel said the new website contained new features which should make job-matching more efficient for businesses and workers.
“Finding the time to search for a job can be challenging for anyone,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Julian Alvarez. “The new features of WorkInTexas.com make it more efficient to search and apply for jobs. The local support from the Workforce Solutions offices provides even greater access to allow any Texas job seeker the opportunity to find work.”
The new website allows job seekers to upload, build and refine resumes, and includes a Virtual Recruiter which works to match job-seekers with positions. Job seekers can also interact with staff at 180 Texas Workforce Solutions offices around the state, sites which include access to computer labs, job search-related classes, hiring events and referrals to employers.
Employers can set up a Virtual Recruiter and access the local talent pool in specific areas, streamlining the recruiting process to save time and ensure the most qualified local candidates are identified, TWC said in a statement. Employers can also work directly with Texas Workforce Solutions offices around the state to identify and recruit qualified applicants.
The Texas Workforce Commission, in partnership with local workforce solutions offices, will conduct outreach events across the state to publicize the WorkInTexas.com website.
Fall outreach events will be conducted in Lubbock, the Rio Grande Valley, Dallas and San Antonio, although specific dates have not yet been selected.
