HARLINGEN — On a daily basis, pediatric dentist Linda Burke works toward helping children gain healthy teeth and beautiful smiles.
Soon, she will begin using her years of experience and skills toward monitoring and ensuring the health of patients throughout Texas is protected.
Gov. Greg Abbott recently appointed Burke, owner of Burke Children’s Dentistry, to the State Board of Dental Examiners, which regulates the practice of dentistry and dental hygiene.
“I’m honored the governor chose me to serve in that capacity,” Burke said. “I want to do my best, try hard and represent everyone the best way I can.”
As a daughter of a dentist who practiced for more than 40 years, Burke says her father’s passion and devotion to his career shaped hers.
“He was an excellent clinician and very dedicated to his profession,” she explained. “I’ve always learned that it’s so important, of course, to protect your patient and do what’s best for them. So, I think that has always been instilled in me from my father.”
Burke said she is excited Abbott has given her this chance to serve and represent her colleagues in the Valley.
“To me, I think it’s going to be rewarding to know that the Valley is represented and that we have a voice,” Burke said. “I think that’s really important because we’re a united and large group.”
