Tax notices in the mail for Cameron County residents

Your tax notice is in the mail.

Cameron County Tax Assessor and Collector Tony Yzaguirre Jr. announced that the 2019 tax statements for personal property and real estate accounts have been mailed out to local residents. The tax statements were sent out Oct. 1, and taxpayers once again can take advantage of tax discounts if they pay their taxes early.

If taxes are paid in October, taxpayers will receive a 3 percent discount. If they are paid in November, they will receive a 2 percent discount, and if they are paid in December, taxpayers will receive a 1 percent discount for those taxing districts that offer the discounts.

There are no discounts for taxes paid in January.

“Property owners who cannot pay their taxes in full can take advantage of various payment plan options, and or make partial payments at any of the Tax Office 9 branch locations,” Yzaguirre said a press release. “Arrangements should be made as soon as possible to ensure that taxes are paid in full, or a substantial amount has been paid by January of 2020 to avoid an added penalties and interest.”

Taxpayers may make payments over the internet; partial payments; quarterly payments; tax-payment agreement; mail-in payments; and over-the-counter payments
