Heat advisory for entire Rio Grande Valley

Forecasters say a combination of hot temperatures and a moist atmosphere will once again create dangerous heat conditions for South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley.

A heat advisory is in effect from noon until 7 p.m. tonight for Cameron, Hidalgo, Willacy, Starr, Kenedy and Brooks counties.

The National Weather Service says heat-related illnesses may happen for anyone working or playing outdoors for extended periods of time.

Protect yourself from the heat:

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioned
  • Wear loose fitting and light colored clothing
  • Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles
