Excessive Heat Warning issued for the Valley; heat index to reach 116

The National Weather Service in Brownsville has issued an “Excessive Heat Warning” for much of the Rio Grande Valley and up towards Sarita.

Forecasters say the “Heat Advisories” and “Excessive Heat Warnings” are in effect today and again on Saturday.

Heat advisories are issued for “feels like” temperatures between 111 and 115; the more dangerous Heat *Warning* is for values greater than 115.

The warning means it is very possible you could get heat stroke if you are unprepared for being outside for a prolonged length of time.

The NWS says without hydration or or frequent breaks, heat stroke can be deadly. The lack of winds will not allow your sweat to evaporate quickly, which means your body will heat up faster.
