FM radio stations KJJF 88.9, KHID 88.1 sold

Local FM radio stations, KJJF 88.9 and KHID 88.1, have been sold, the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville announced in a news release Thursday.

The FCC granted the application for nonprofit RGV Educational Broadcasting Inc. to sell the stations to Immaculate Heart Media Inc.

The broadcast public radio programming will cease Thursday afternoon. The stations also carry the local NPR affiliate.

“While we wish we could continue, we recognize that as a growing diocese we must be prudent with our resources and make sure they are in line with the mission of the Church,” Bishop Daniel E. Flores said in the release. “We expect the programming of the new licensee to further that mission.”

It was clear from the news release whether NPR would continue to be broadcast.
