Flash flood emergency warning issued, submerged cars on frontage road

The National Weather Service in Brownsville has issued a flash flood emergency for Cameron and Hidalgo counties and it remains in effect until Thursday morning.

Forecasters say there is a line of thunderstorms producing heavy rain across that area causing flash flooding. The worst of this morning’s rain has been from Weslaco to La Feria where more than a foot of rain has fallen in just two hours.

There are numerous reports of submerged cars on the frontage roads of Interstate 2/Expressway 83.

The heaviest rain is now moving into the Harlingen, which has had half of foot of rain since Monday afternoon.

A number of cities are being impacted by the flood warning including Harlingen, Weslaco, San Benito, Mercedes, La Feria, Progreso, Edcouch, Santa Rosa, Rio Hondo and La Villa.
