Market Days adds vendors

HARLINGEN — This Saturday’s Jackson Street Market Days could be one of the biggest yet with the addition of even more vendors and stalls.

The event, held the first Saturday of each month, is a chance for retailers in the historic downtown district to team up with vendors for a strolling shopping experience.

“This time we’re going to have an additional 20 spots,” said Edward Meza, downtown manager. “The Harlingen Housing Authority has opened their parking lot to add an additional 25 spots. They will, of course, need to be reserved before the event but we could have as many as 40 to 60 vendors this Saturday.”

Those vendors, combined with the downtown stores, will be selling collectibles, antiques, sports gear, teen merchandise, albums, crafts, candy, fashion jewelry and more.

“There’s everything you can imagine,” Meza said. “Of course we have all the wonderful shops which are already down here, and they’ll be open and a lot of them have specials. It’s a huge day for the retailers here.”

Also available will be food from downtown restaurants as well as from vendors. Live music, too, is on the agenda.

“It’s the largest monthly street festival in the Rio Grande Valley,” Meza added. “It’s family fun and friendly.”
