HARLINGEN — Forecasters have issued a heat advisory today for the Rio Grande Valley and northern ranchlands.
Meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Brownsville say the heat index will hit 105 to 110 degrees, with the hottest “feels-like” temperatures in the Upper Valley.
High temperatures today will range from a modest 88 degrees at South Padre Island to 98 degrees in Brownsville and 101 in Harlingen. The temperature will top out at 103 this afternoon in McAllen and Rio Grande City.
Those actual high temperatures today will be pushing records for the day.
Brownsville’s high for Tuesday was 98 degrees set in a heat wave in 1922, the same year and date Harlingen set its high of 101. McAllen’s hottest day on May 29 was 102 degrees in 2005.
Expect more of this mid-summer weather at least through next Monday.
Forecasters say highs will range from the low 90s to triple digits for the next six days.
