Rangers arrest two voters in Edinburg voter fraud investigation

EDINBURG — Texas Rangers arrested two people in connection with a voter fraud investigation here Wednesday morning.

Texas Department of Pubic Safety spokesman Johnny Hernandez confirmed the arrests.He identified the two people arrested as Veronica Vela Saenz, 41, and Jose Antonio Vela, 27, of Edinburg.

The arrests stem from an investigation by the Rangers, the Texas Attorney General’s office and the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s office.

Vela Saenz is accused of voting in the 2017 Edinburg municipal election despite not living in the city. She is facing possible voter fraud charges, a second degree felony, according to a source close to the investigation.

Vela is facing possible charges for allegedly making a false statement on a voter application, a Class B misdemeanor, the source said.
