San Benito hosts ‘Hog Waddle’ concert, cook- off today

SAN BENITO — It’s time for Hog Waddle.

The city of San Benito hosts its Country Concert & Cook-Off today at the San Benito Fairgrounds, 551 Cesar Gonzalez Parkway from noon to midnight.

“The goal of the event is to support the City’s continued efforts to boost tourism to the region by promoting its unique history and musical heritage through diverse family-friendly programming,” according to event co-organizer Luis Contreras.

The evening concert under the stars will feature Texas Country Music Legend Mark Chesnutt, and will open with other country musical performances by Buck’ N Crazy, Hollow Slaughter Creek, Lauren Corzine Band, Roy Solis, Shotgun Band, and Southern Ashes.

The event will also highlight an International Barbecue Cookers’ Association sanctioned cook-off where participants from all across Texas will compete with their best pork recipes for a $3,000 progressive payout. For more information, please visit: www.sanbenitoevents.com.

The concert is free of charge, with an $8 parking fee per vehicle. VIP reserved seating is available at City Hall, 485 N. Sam Houston, and Boot Jack Outlets. Online purchases can be made at www.sanbenitoevents.com.

Reserved seating per table is $25 or $10 per person.

This year’s event will have food and craft vendors, games, activities for the entire family, and cold beverages.

This is a significant event for the City of San Benito, according to Contreras.

“What makes events like the Resaca City Music Festival and the all new Hog Waddle Country Concert & Cook-Off, is that aside from the goal to attract tourism and contribute to San Benito’s quality of life, they provide an opportunity for us to promote San Benito’s musical heritage and history to both local and visiting diverse audiences,” he said.

“Mark Chestnutt was selected as the event headliner initially because we were looking for a country artist that promoted Texas country music, would draw people, and entertain — providing San Benitians an unforgettable experience.”
