Local woman dies in hit-and-run

MERCEDES — Police have a “person of interest” in a hit-and-run that killed a woman yesterday.

Another woman and two children were taken to the hospital for treatment with unknown injuries.

Police identified the victim as Christina Bravo Bruno, 47, of Mercedes.

Mercedes police received a call about 3 p.m. about a car crash near Texas Avenue and West Frontage Road.

It is unknown what caused the crash.

Police said one person of interest is in custody after police searched the area for the suspected vehicle involved in the crash.

Police said witnesses saw the second vehicle leave the scene of the crash.

Bruno was the driver of a blue sports utility vehicle also carrying another woman and three children.

Police confirmed she was not the mother of the children involved in the crash.

The SUV was found severely damaged and looked like it had been smashed hard from the rear, crushing the body of the car and bending the rear tires.
