Students participate in athletics meet

San Benito CISD Special Olympics athletes recently participated in the Special Olympics Texas Rio Grande Valley Area Raymondville Athletics Meet – the Katstrong Games – held at Raymondville High School.

“The track and field competition was both enjoyable and successful. Our athletes stepped it up to the next level with their competition,” said Rick Tamez, Special Olympics/Adaptive Physical Education Coordinator. “We would like to thank the Raymondville delegation for allowing us to participate in their track meet this year.”

Following are the competition results for San Benito athletes:

San Benito High School – Rafael Bustos, 4th; Estefania Cerda, 1st; Juan David Garcia, 2nd; Amanda Lopez, 2nd; Janet Morales, 2nd; Isela Ramirez; Angel Lynn Rodriguez, 1st; Frank Torres, 2nd; Billy Jo Vela, 1st; Desiree Venegas, 1st; and Angel Villagomez, 1st.

The student athletes had been practicing and improving their track skills under the direction and leadership of the following Special Olympics coaches: Belinda Amaya, Davis Ezell, Maria Cisneros, Omar Carvajal, Ofelia Owens, Ruben Reza, Jesus Zuñiga, Mel Sosa, and Cindy Puente.
