Event to bring awareness to virus

BROWNSVILLE — Help aid the county in the fight against the Zika virus.

The Cameron County Public Health in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will host its 2nd Annual Zika Action Day to bring awareness and information to the public.

During the event, participants will be given product demonstrations on different items that help keep mosquitoes at bay.

Mosquitoes are most notable for spreading the disease and often breed in standing water or moist areas.

Zika prevention kits will be given out that contain EPA-approved mosquito spray and Dunks tablets that help treat standing water and kill mosquito eggs.

During the event, residents will also be allowed to drop off up to four used tires to be disposed of.

Tires can often be a breeding ground for mosquitoes when they collect rain water in the grooves.
