SAN BENITO — Are you ready to wear the blue?
The San Benito Police Department has put out a help wanted sign and is looking for new recruits to join the force.
Officer hopefuls who want a career in law enforcement will soon be able to take those first steps.
An entrance exam and agility test will be given on Friday, June 1.
Applicants with a high school diploma or GED between the ages of 21 and 44 will be eligible to take the exam.
Those wishing to join the police force can not be 45 years old at the time of the exam.
To be eligible for the position of an entry-level police officer, applicants must complete the exam with a score of 70 or higher.
Results from the written portion of the exam will remain in effect for one year and will place the applicants on an eligibility list for an entry-level officer position.
After the written exam, applicants must complete an agility test that includes completing a one-mile run in under 12 minutes and completing a 100-yard obstacle course in less than three minutes.
The physical portion of the exam encompasses strength, endurance and agility.
Applicants will be tested on their ability to push a motor vehicle 20 feet to simulate the need to clear a roadway of hazards and their ability to maneuver a body of average weight around a course.
A copy of the full agility exam can be found online.
Those wishing to join the San Benito Police Department must register before Friday, May 11, at the Human Resources Department.
