Card tournament to benefit United Way

HARLINGEN — Test your luck and skill and raise money for the community at an upcoming poker tournament.

United Way of Northern Cameron County will host its annual Texas Hold‘Em Fundraiser Saturday.

The organization benefits nonprofits that support health, education and financial stability, will host one of its largest charity events to raise money for local organizations.

Jessica Belschner from United Way said the tournament will help raise funds for local nonprofits that benefit people living in Northern Cameron and Willacy counties.

“We always try to keep in mind that this event is a charity fundraiser and meant to raise money for a great organization and we hope the players have a fun time doing it,” Belschner said.

The organization hasn’t set a goal for how much money they are hoping to raise during the tournament.

“Whatever we raise we are grateful for,” Belschner said.

This will be the second tournament the organization has hosted.

Registered players will receive a lunch and the top 10 players will win prizes.

Belschner said United Way doesn’t have an exact count yet but is on track to have more than 100 players for the tournament.

Residents interested in playing can enter the tournament for an opportunity to win prizes.
