Wind advisory issued for Valley counties

HARLINGEN — Forecasters issued a wind advisory today for Cameron and Willacy counties from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Strong southeast winds that developed overnight diminished after sunrise but were expected to pick back up late this morning.

The National Weather Service issued a statement saying winds will be 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 40 mph.

Included in the advisory area are Brownsville, Raymondville, Harlingen, South Padre Island, Port Isabel and Port Mansfield.

Forecasters also issued a small-craft advisory until 11 p.m. today for both gulf and bay waters from the Rio Grande north to Port Mansfield.

There will be a moderate risk of rip currents along gulf-facing beaches today.
