State of County luncheon highlights county wins

HARLINGEN — Community members and county officials filed into the Jackson Street Event Center today to hear updates on the county.

The Harlingen Chamber of Commerce hosted the 2018 State of the County to address progress and achievements the county has seen in the past year.

Cameron County Commissioner Gus Ruiz and Cameron County judge Eddie Trevino, Jr. were keynote speakers at the event.

Ruiz addressed the crowd over the various projects that have improved in his precinct that covers more than 300 road miles including Operation Rattlesnake, an initiative dedicated to cleaning up properties that posed potential health hazards.

Trevino touched on the successes that the county has seen including Cardone Industries, Space X and the introduction of the county’s first all-inclusive park.

More than 100 community members and elected officials were in attendance for the event.
