Two women were killed in a traffic accident Wednesday night near the intersection of FM 802 and Old Port Isabel Road, authorities confirmed.

Brownsville Police Department Spokesman J.J. Trevino said the two women were struck by a vehicle as they tried to cross the street.

The driver was a 16-years-old male, Trevino said, adding that no arrests have been made.

Trevino identified the victims as sisters Ana Maria Santos-Hernandez, 59, and Felipa Santos-Hernandez, 63.

The sisters were struck by the car after trying to jaywalk across the street, Trevino said.

Charges are not expected to be filed as the 16-year-old had not broken any traffic rules, Trevino said.

However, the driver was just permitted and police are urging parents to be more attentive with young drivers by limiting how often they drive alone.
