Brush Up Harlingen to beautify neighborhoods

HARLINGEN — Areas around Harlingen could soon see new life thanks to a collaborative effort between the city and Habitat for Humanity RGV.

Habitat for Humanity will kick off its first Brush Up Harlingen event this Saturday.

The collaborative effort will work to restore beauty in low-income neighborhoods by providing much needed touchups to the homes and surrounding areas.

Executive director of Habitat RGV, Wayne Lowry, said the event is an effort to beautify neighborhoods in low-income areas.

Lowry said the organization has had a very positive response from the residents.

Volunteers will replace trim and rotten wood as well as paint the homes and clean up brush in the area.

Habitat RGV has not set the dates for future events but is hoping to continue the efforts at least once every three months.
