Suspect on the run with gold necklaces totaling $9,300

HARLINGEN — It’s a heist local police want solved, and they are looking to the community to help find their person of interest.

“We are still trying to identify him at this time,” said Larry Moore, Harlingen police sergeant.

Police are actively looking for the young man who allegedly nabbed $9,300 worth of gold necklaces from a jewelry store at the Valle Vista Mall last month.

“He was looking at the chains and had them pull them out and he waited for the right time and snatched them and ran off,” Moore said.

According to police, on Tuesday, Feb. 6, the young male suspect with tattoos on both his eyelids that read, “VIDA LOCA,” asked a jeweler at the Valle Vista Mall to see some gold necklaces.

And according to police, the suspect swiped a handful of gold rope chains and made a run for it.

A surveillance camera picture shows the suspect was only armed with his smile as he asked the attendant to see the gold necklaces he is accused of taking.

Police said he was last seen running out of the mall and into a light colored Chevrolet Malibu with Texas license plates.

Moore said business owners should look for suspicious signs from customers attempting to steal merchandise.

“Don’t lay several items on the counter at one time,” Moore said. “You have to take care of your property.”

Moore suggested showing one piece at a time.
