BROWNSVILLE — After a week-long slowdown in early voting returns, results posted by the Cameron County Elections and Voter Registration Department showed a small uptick in ballots cast Tuesday.
Turnout information released Wednesday morning showed that 1,003 people cast early votes for the March 6 primary. That’s the most in one day since the second day of early voting one week ago.
Polls are open for early voting through March 2.
Tuesday results helped grow the early voting total to 6,402. Of that group of early voters, 5,336 are Democrats and 1,066 are Republicans.
The highest turnouts in Cameron County have been consistently at the Brownsville Public Library on Central Boulevard and at the San Benito Community Center. On Tuesday, 348 people voted at the library, and 115 folks cast ballots in San Benito.
The lowest turnouts Tuesday, with 20 or fewer votes, include the New Horizon Medical Center in Brownsville, the Bob Clark Social Service Center on Browne Road in Brownsville and the Santa Rosa Maria Luisa Ruiz Guerra County Annex.
